Footloose Remake..

Paramount, in a move that makes me again wonder how little imagination Hollywood has left, has decided that a " Footloose " remake was in order.. Since " Footloose " was adapted into a Broadway musical, Paramount figures that they would adapt the musical back onto film; as a musical..

With the Oscar - winning and box - office success of '' Chicago '' producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have become the go - to guys for musicals on film.. They recently brought the classic '' The Music Man '' to TV, they're working on a film version of the classic '' Guys and Dolls '' for Miramax, and now, Paramount is developing a musical remake of the 1984 film " Footloose " and will develop it for " High School Musical " star Zac Efron and director Kenny Ortega.. Dylan Sellers will produce..

The plan is to turn the project into a full - blown musical.. Footloose was already turned into a Broadway musical..

Ortega is in negotiations to helm and choreograph, and Efron is in talks to play Ren McCormack, the rebellious newcomer ( Originally played by Kevin Bacon ) in a town where dancing has been banned..

The new movie will be an update of the Kevin Bacon movie, not the Broadway musical it spawned in 1998, though Dean Pitchford, who wrote the original movie and its song lyrics as well as adapting his screenplay into the Broadway show, will pitch in again as executive producer and will write four more songs.. ( Some of the original tunes, including the title song and '' Let's Hear It for the Boy,'' will stay ) Unlike the original movie, the characters will sing this time; as with '' Chicago '' the filmmakers are looking for actors willing to warble and hoof on camera.. '' This is going to have a more experimental feel and will be closer in tone to " Moulin Rouge " than " Chicago " said Zadan, whose producing career began in 1984 with the original movie..

Now this is just a little rumor that " Tomorrow's Entertainment " has picked up, but the " Footloose " remake could also be starring Britney Spears..

The first one had a great excuse- it was the eighties!! Back then I actually liked it, defiance against the oppressive no-dancing society and such. But version is like the extra cheese version, especially if the Spears rumors are true. They could have at least been a smidgeon more interesting and chosen Flashdance instead, with Jennifer Lopez as the lead. Or "Fame" with Biance' and some famous gangstas.

Aloha J. Lyon Layden.. I was and still am a fan of the original.. I'm definitely not looking forward to seeing a musical on the big screen as a remake, especially if Spears is in it.. I can see another " Crossroads " about to happen if she is..

"Footloose" remake is a bad idea. Not only will the movie be remade, the songs will be covered by new and likely to be less talented artists.

Aloha Hszoo and Raegu.. Welcome to Tomorrow's Entertainment.. I actually thought the same thing the other night when I typed the post.. So ended up watching it.. It's a classic, I just wish Hollywood would start coming up with original ideas for movies.. It's like the latest " Hairspray " movie.. It's a musical about the musical which is about the movie.. What?? Who comes up with these ideas.. What's next? Peter Jackson doing a LOTR movie about the musical which was about the movie, which is about the book.. LOL..

Footloose remake is a great idea! I loved the original and can't wait to see an updated musical version. Zac Efron as Ren is perfect! I wonder who will play Ariel and the rest of the cast. I don't think the Spears rumor is true-she was considered for the role about five years ago--but that was a long time ago...You just reminded me as well that I want to rent and watch the original again. Thanks!

Footloose is my fave movie. I grew up with it, i think a remake of it would be great. And the hairspray remake was great as well. Only problem is, by spears do you mean britney spears? Cause that will totally turn me off to it, she is the worst actress (if you can say shes an actress)/singer (if you can even say shes a singer). But yea, i would definetly like to see this movie remade. I think remaking older movies is a great idea so kids now days can see what real tv is with their actors.
